Your data
Privacy
Last updated:
- No ads, no tracking cookies, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
- We keep only what the site needs: your account if you make one, your messages, your email if you join the newsletter, and anonymous visitor totals.
- Your crate stays in your browser, and in your account if you sign in, so it follows you to your other devices. Your settings stay in your browser.
- Questions, or want your data deleted? Write to hello@diggerdigger.com.
Who we are
Digger Digger (diggerdigger.com) is a free website made in France, by a DJ, for DJs. Digger Digger is responsible for your data (the "controller", in the words of the GDPR, the European privacy law) and is being registered as a company in France. You can reach us at hello@diggerdigger.com.
What we collect, and why
When you visit
Nothing that tells us who you are. Each visit adds +1 to anonymous totals for the day: pages viewed, previews played, store clicks, saved and sent tracks, searches, the site you came from, your device type, system, language and hour, and your country, worked out from your device's time zone (not your location). We keep no IP address and no visitor ID.
If you press Accept in the cookie banner, your browser also keeps one small note, the day and month of your last visit, so we can count visitors and not only visits. It has no ID, never leaves your device and starts over after 13 months. Until you answer, only the anonymous totals are counted. If you press Decline, or your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing at all is counted.
Why we may: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used (the totals), and your consent (the note).
Your account
If you create one: your email address, your name if you give it, and your password, which Google stores scrambled and we never see. With "Continue with Google": the name, email address and picture of your Google account. A small account card also keeps when you joined, when you last visited, how you sign in and your time zone, so we can count accounts.
On My account you can add a profile: a name and a unique @username (your name shows on the sets you share) and a photo. We keep them in our database, with the dates you changed your name or username (to apply the limit of two changes in 14 days, and to keep an old username yours for 14 days), and the list of the sets you shared while signed in (each set's name, link and number of tracks). Signed in, we also keep your crate (the tracks you saved, their order and your set's name), so it follows you from one device to another. You can change or delete all of it there, and delete your whole account.
Why we may: to give you the account you asked for.
Password reset emails
When you press "Forgot your password?", we send you an email with a one-time link. To stop abuse, we count the requests for each address for one day, keeping only a scrambled version of the address (a hash), never the address itself. The answer on screen is the same whether or not an account exists.
Why we may: to give you the account you asked for, and to keep it safe.
Contact messages
Through the Contact page: your name (if you give it), your email address, the topic and your message, so we can answer you. Emails you send to hello@ or dj@diggerdigger.com arrive in our Gmail inbox.
Why we may: our legitimate interest in answering you.
The waitlist
On the Coming soon page: your email address and the date you joined. We use it for one email when Digger Digger opens, and for nothing else.
Why we may: your consent.
The newsletter
If you sign up with the newsletter box (on the home page, the blog, the articles and the style pages): your email address, the date and time you signed up, the box you used (on a style page, it also tells us that style interests you), and the language and time zone your browser is set to, so we can write to you at a sensible hour. We also note which version of the box's wording you agreed to. We keep no IP address. We use all this only to send you the Digger Digger newsletter: new tracks, IDs, free downloads and DJ news. Every newsletter has a link to unsubscribe.
Why we may: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Cookies and what is kept in your browser
We use no advertising or tracking cookies. The site keeps a few small things in your browser's storage so it works the way you left it. They stay on your device:
- Your crate (the tracks you saved; signed in, a copy is also kept in your account) and your Send settings (your DJ app).
- Player and display settings: volume, shuffle, repeat, paused animations, keyboard shortcuts.
- Your answer to the cookie banner, for 13 months, and the visitor note if you pressed Accept (13 months at most).
- "Don't count me", if you chose it.
- That you joined the newsletter, so the box thanks you instead of asking again.
- If you sign in: Firebase (Google) keeps your sign-in session, and we remember your name and picture to show them at the top of the page.
You can change your cookie answer at any time in the FAQ, under "Do you use cookies?", or clear everything in your browser's settings.
The services we use
| Service | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) | Hosts the site and our database (the newsletter list, the waitlist, contact messages, reset counts, and the profiles, photos, crates and shared sets lists of accounts, kept in the EU), and forwards our email addresses to our inbox. |
| Google (Firebase and Gmail) | Sign-in, the account cards and the anonymous totals (Firebase, whose code loads from Google's servers on every page), and our email inbox (Gmail). |
| Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France) | Sends the password reset emails. |
| Deezer SA (France) | The 30-second previews, the covers and some artist photos load from Deezer's servers. |
Like any server, these companies see your IP address when your browser contacts them. Cloudflare and Google may handle data in the USA; both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
When you open a store or streaming link (Beatport, Spotify, YouTube and the others) or TuneMyMusic, you leave Digger Digger, and that site's own privacy rules apply.
Some blog posts show a YouTube video. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play; then the video plays from YouTube (Google) in its privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube's own privacy rules apply.
How long we keep it
- Anonymous totals: as long as the site runs. They say nothing about anyone.
- The visitor note and your cookie answer: 13 months at most, in your browser.
- Your account, its card, your profile, photo, crate and list of shared sets: until you delete your account on My account (at once), or ask us to (we do it within a month).
- Reset counts per address: one day.
- Contact messages: until we have answered, and 12 months at most.
- Emails to hello@ or dj@: as long as we need them to follow up with you, and 3 years at most.
- The waitlist: deleted once the launch email is sent.
- The newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. We then delete your details within a month.
Your rights
On My account you can see and correct your profile, and delete your account yourself. You can also ask to see your data, to correct it, to delete it or to get a copy, and to limit or object to how we use it. You can withdraw your consent at any time: change your cookie answer in the FAQ, use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or write to us to leave the newsletter or the waitlist. Write to hello@diggerdigger.com and we answer within one month.
If you think we got something wrong, you can complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
Children
Digger Digger is not meant for children under 15.
Changes
When the site changes what it collects, this page changes too, with a new date at the top.
